The build of the 1908 Wright Flyer III becomes reality. Upon Le Mans city initiative and its Mayor, Mr. Jean-Claude Boulard, who officialy announces on beginning 2002 the buliding of a 1908 Wright Flyer III flying replica.
The project launched in 1988 by Daniel Poissenot and René Geay is taken over by François Payeur, the new president of Sarthe Aéro Retro having from that date the name of Le Mans Sarthe Aéro Retro. On 4th February 2002 this is the first meeting of the teamwork of volunteers consituted by François Payeur. This is the start of a great adventure !
After the airport workshop set-up of late Marsh 2002, studies and works start with the use of Kohn Rozendaal's drawings supplied on early 1990's to René Geay by the Deuitsch Museum of Munich - Germany.
On 18th October 2002 the full scale prototype of the Flyer central part is completed. It would then be used to test the power and transmission unit.
