First show of the sculpture 'Spirit of Pioneers'
Le Mans -Sarthe : Land of Pioneers
During a perfect show - upon original idea of Francois BRUERE - in the great hall of Le Mans and Sarthe (France) Chamber of Commerce, that the contemporary sculpture of the Sarthe artist, françois BRUERE, was revealed for the 1st time to the public. The presence of classic dancers must be noticed as well as Le Mans two schools of enginners: ISMANS (Superior Institute for Advanced Material and Mechanics), ISIALM (Superior Institute for Commercial & Engineering Businesses). The 2 schools are directly involved in the different contemporary monuments projects of the 2008 Centennial.
This fine art creation (1.6 meters / 5 feet height) represents the airplane propeller move and the rotation of an engine.The flame symbolises the 'spirit' of the pioneers which blew so strongly in Le Mans and Sarthe, in 1906 (Automobile Club of France 1906 Grand Prix, 1st historical grand prix in closed circuit) then in 1908-1909 (Wilbur WRIGHT flights) in presence of many pioneers of aviation, automobile, industry and sciences, arts with all their expressions (photograph, drawing, painting, sculpture, litterature, music, song, fashion,...), and last but not least politics.
The sculpture shown on 5th December 2007, property of Centennial Committee, would be set up at Hunaudieres horse track, historical site of the 1st world's public flight of the WRIGHT brothers and the 1st flights in Europe of this very strange bird called WRIGHT FLYER III of 1908. The Horse Racing Society Board of Trustees has come into an agreement with the Le Mans Sarthe Wright 2008 Centennial Committee regarding the exact location of the monument. The 'Spirit of Pioneers' statue can be seen at Le Mans Chamber of Commerce until its transfer to Hunaudieres horse track.
A second sculpture, same size, would be supplied to the final destination of WRIGHT FLYER III made by Aero Retro, if such a place - expected by all - is finally decided and created.
A monumental sculpture of 6 meters height (20 feet) - the main monument - would be constructed upon financial subscription results and local decisions about its location. The ideal location upon Centennial Committee would be a place close to Auvours Fork (curb), historically linked with both events, the automobile Grand Prix of 1906 and the Wilbur WRIGHT experimentation of 1908 at Aucours camp.
Some samples of the 'Spirit of Pioneers' statue (1.6 meter or 5 feet height) could be made additionally. Their potential supplies shall be submitted to both agreement of Francois BRUERE (the artist) and the Centennial Committee. The Committee is responsible for the global ethic of events and actions related to the Le Mans Sarthe Wright 2008 Centennial. The Committee wishes that public sites choosen for this statue are without doubt linked with history.
A desk size reproduction of 'Spirit of Pioneers' statue (height about 40 centimeters or 16 inches) would be soon proposed to the public interested in that purchase.
