Summary
On the occasion of the events which commemorate the Centennial of Wilbur Wright 1908-1909 flights in Le Mans, an international symposium about early aviation is organized by the University of Maine (Le Mans, France) in November 2008. The emergence of aviation in the early twentieth century have deeply changed human society, in technical terms of course, but also from a sociological point of view, regarding as well peaceful dealings as warlike clashes. More deeply, this invention initiated a new pattern to consider the real, space, and human relationships. This international symposium plans to discuss the advent of this new paradigm, with cultural and anthropological approach of its history.

Main topic of the symposium
Early aviation has been the subject of research work in many countries where aviation emerged (United States, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Brazil, etc.). Theses works, first focused on technical aspects, secondly approached some political aspects, such as the national rivalry which was launched by trials that aircraft manufacturers ran on the eve of the Geart War and the formation of the first agencies charged with regulating civil and military aviation. Recently, cultural study of aviation aroused more interest, as it was shown by the National Aerospace Conference "The Meaning of Flight in the 20th Century", organized in the Wright State University (Dayton, Ohio) in 1998.
