The Sarthe General Council booth (4,000 sq. feet), had the great idea of hosting the Centennial Committee and Aero retro during Le Mans trade fair. This booth had really an immense success! About 45,000 persons visit the booth...and 600 were privileged to be presented with the WRIGHT FLYER II of 1905's pilot licence (pilot in laid position). Sebastien BOURDAIS - from sarthe too, also Honorary Membe rof 2008 Centennial and future Formula One automobile pilot with Toro Rosso racing team - got his FLYER pilot licence from Jef JACQUELIN's hands (another pilot but...of WRIGHT FLYER III).
The Sarthe General Council booth was inaugurated in presence of Mr. President Roland DU LUART, numerous politics and Mr. Sebastien BOURDAIS as special honorary guest.
The exhibition did include the full scale WRIGHT FLYER III flying replica (the artistic creation of Aero Retro with 63 flights to date), the original WRIGHT engine (loan of Le Mans Museums), the original piece of fabrics from 1903 WRIGHT FLYER I (gift of an American couple from Dayton to the Centennial Committee), a superb historical panel of 63 feet length (re-use of the panel designed for Paris Le Bourget Aero Show of June 2007), a walkway of smaller panels delightly created by the Sarthe General Council communication department (thanks to Sarthe Archives).
Needless to say that Sarthe population and other visitors (Le Mans trade fair is Nr. 5 in France in acrage and Nr. 14 in number of visitors with 105,000 from 13th to 17th September 2007) are now well informed about the past and also...near future which means the le Mans Sarthe Wright 2008 Centennial.
Congratulations to all volunteers from Centennial Committee and Aero Retro who made this event possible and many thanks to Sarthe General Council, Mr. Pascal COCONNIER and his team members, Mr. Emmanuel MATHONNIERE and Mrs. Isabelle RODRIGUEZ-FILLETTE for their perfect collaboration.
