Coulaines city, member of Le Mans Metropolis area, hosts for several years at Monnet sports complex the Kite Festival.

This is really the right place as Coulaines became, since May 2005, sister city of Kitty Hawk, NC (USA), place where the WRIGHT brothers made all their experimentations from 1900 until 1903 from kite to powered airplane - the FLYER I - which accomplished the firsts heavier than air reproductible flights, without forgetting gliders. The  2 brothers went back to Kitty Hawk in May 1908 before their simultaneous experimentations in Le Mans, Sarthe, France (for Wilbur WRIGHT) and Fort Myer close to Washington DC, USA (Orville) during the same year.

The Coulaines City Council has also decided to build at the Monnet sports complex a WRIGHT type shed similar to those built in only 4 historical sites by the famous aviators: 1. Kitty Hawk (NC, USA),  2. Huffman prairie (near Dayton, OH, USA), 3. Hunaudieres horse track (Le Mans, Sarthe, France), 4. Auvours military camp (Champagne near Le Mans, Sarthe, France).
